           Homeschooling 2007

We have embarked on a new adventure over the past month - homeschooling one of our 7th grade girls.  Tanisha is one of our highly gifted students, but has difficultly focusing in the classroom.  She has proven herself to be extremely faithful and eager to learn, but in public school she was on the verge of expulsion due to her incessant talking.

We have enrolled Tanisha in a Christian Homeschool program out of Chicago called Jubilee Academy.  Our vision is to homeschool her for the remainder of this year and possibly next year, contingent upon her continued success in homeschooling.  Then she will return to public school when she enters high school.

Over the past week we have seen the tremendous impact of homeschooling.  We have been able to pick up all of the math concepts that Tanisha was lacking from the 7th grade and now we are teaching her Algebra.  She is also advancing in Science, History, and English.  In addition, we have also started teaching her US Government, which is an 8th grade course along with Web Design.

Tanisha’s excitement for learning and her ability to retain information has exceeded even our expectations.  We knew that by homeschooling her we would enable her to return to public school without falling behind, but we never assumed that we would be able to advance her to such high levels in so many subjects.  We know that God works all things together for good, and we have seen in such a short amount of time the impact that homeschooling has had in Tanisha’s life.

Preparing to Lead

With Ashley at Boston College, our girls have had to work together to build a strong support group.  Shawn-Dera, NeNe, Tanisha, Natalie G. and Danielle, all members of our advanced step team, have stepped up to proclaim that they will fulfill God’s call upon their life.  They are not only making right decisions, but they are also influencing others to follow their lead.

It is essential that we continue to teach godly principles and reward good behavior. It is only through the help of others that we are going to be able to continue to advance God’s kingdom in this generation. We would therefore, like to ask you to prayerfully consider supporting UIH financially.

At this present time we are in need of laptop computers, carpet, Summer Leadership Camp supplies, money for uniforms for step team competitions, as well as additional monthly supporters.  Over the past 4 years, we have poured all of our personal resources into the ministry and never taken a salary; however, we know that we cannot continue along this same path.  We are praying for others to partner with us through prayer and finances in order to totally transform the entire community through the love of Jesus Christ.

The Pre Teen Ball

by Tanisha Gilchrist

Calvary Revival Church hosted a pre-teen ball for 5th – 8th graders.  This event was the bomb!  They played    good    music   and   we danced until

11:00 p.m.   It was a great experience as it was my first Ball. We had a good time dressing up and they  served  macaroni cheese, chicken, desserts and  drinks.
