To unite with churches and other Christian organizations to totally transform inner city communities through the love of Jesus Christ.
On May 9th God gave us a wonderful gift through Joy Ministries. For the past 5 years this ministry has blessed single moms and their children on Mother’s Day by providing an elegant meal at the downtown Virginia Beach Pavilion. In addition to the meal there is also awesome praise and worship, powerful preaching, as well as gifts for each of the mothers who attended. This year United In Him signed up more than 80 residents from Twin Canal, which prompted Joy Ministries to send a charter bus to assist us with transportation. This time of celebration brought so much joy into the lives of all the mothers and children who attended. There were games and clowns for the children and chicken cordon blue and cheesecake for the mothers. Every mother received a set of teaching tapes or a wall plaque to remind them of Christ’s unconditional love.
Praise God for the BUS!
When God puts His hand to work, everything changes! Over this past month God has made radical changes in the ministry. The vision that God imparted to us at the beginning of the year has sprung forth and we are now seeing God do miracles almost daily.
It began at a RAP PARTY which was the kickoff for the boys’ Bible study. On that day our back yard was filled with 19 boys and 23 girls, 10 rappers, and a live DJ. The kids were awestruck that so many rappers would come out to their neighborhood just to share the love of Jesus. As they listened to the message of hope from men who have grown up in the projects, they were encouraged to know that their lives could be transformed. At that time, Azel (our new boys’ Bible study teacher) shared with them how each week he would be leading the RAP RALLY which would teach them how to walk in the power of Jesus Christ so that they can be world changers for the next generation. Many boys have now begun attending Bible study for the first time as well as Monday night prayer and even going to church with Azel on Sundays.
God is raining down blessings! We praise God daily for bringing us one man with a passion for Jesus, but God has already multiplied our team as this month a godly couple, Watson and Michelle David joined the United In Him team to lead praise and worship on Saturday mornings. In addition, Watson has now begun teaching the boys respect, discipline, and teamwork through one of his many musical gifts: DRUMS! Michelle has also become an active part by helping with the girl’s Bible study. He has now established the United In Him Drum Corps where each week the boys will learn not only how to play the drums with excellence, but will also learn how to read and write music. This new addition to the ministry has brought such an excitement to the boys and we just look forward to seeing how God is going to use all things for His Glory.
