To unite with churches and other Christian organizations to totally transform inner city communities through the love of Jesus Christ.

News Update from Shaheatta

In October of 2005 we shared the awesome miracle of how Shaheatta gave her life to Christ, decided not to have an abortion, quit smoking, and started attending church and Bible study weekly.  Since then Shaheatta has become an awesome leader in the UIH ministry. Until she gave birth to her beautiful little boy Shahkimm on May 27, 2006, Shaheatta prepared all of the food for our cookout every Saturday.

A few days after Shahkimm was born, another miracle happened in Shaheatta’s life.  A young woman from Calvary Revival Church called us saying God had laid it upon her heart to give her van to Shaheatta.  We couldn’t believe it, as this young woman had only met Shaheatta a couple of times, but the transformation that happened in Shaheatta’s life had made such a huge impression.

The amazing part of this miracle is that Shaheatta had saved all of her 2006 tax money with the vision of purchasing a van.  But when she developed gestational diabetes with her pregnancy, she was unable to work and had to use these funds to provide for her family.  But our God is a way maker and is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we can ever ask or imagine!

UIH Army Service Project

Jesus said that the greatest in the kingdom of heaven are the greatest servants.  Over the past year, this principle has become the foundation of the UIH Army Leadership Team.

Our leaders understand that it is a privilege to serve and that every action must be done with the right motive and correct attitude.  For this reason, we often test the children to ensure that their hearts are to serve the LORD, not just to simply receive a reward for their service.

In spite of our testing, the enthusiasm to serve continues to increase in our leaders.  This month we were able to go to Sister Ruth Norris’ house and lay down mulch, clean lawn furniture, rake and mow the lawn.  When we announced this service project to our leaders all of them were so excited!

We finished the yard within 2½ hours and our leaders were so amazed at all of the work they had completed.  In our debriefing we asked the children their thoughts about the project:

·        Nene said, “When we first arrived, I thought it was too large of a project for us to complete in a day.  But we got it done!”

·        Kaneya said, “That was the first time we had all worked really well as a team and never complained at all!”

·        Ayana said, “When are we going to do it again?”

·        ShawnDera said, “It made me feel really good to be able to help Miss Ruth get her lawn to look so nice.

Kayaking for the 1st Time

Three of our leaders were able to go kayaking at Munden Point Park over the Memorial Day weekend. This was another exciting adventure for these young teens as they had to overcome their fear once again and step into a place where they were unfamiliar.   The teens loved it so much that after only a few times out on the water, two of of leaders were were able to go out on the water without a guide!
