UIH Summer Leadership Boot Camp

What our leaders are saying about boot camp:

Good leaders demonstrate the character of Christ.”

“Leadership is how you live your life and affect others.”

“Good leaders influence other people to make right choices.”

      I have learned that:

·        I must plan ahead

·        It’s very important to be on time

·        I don’t need to watch as much tv

·        Secular music affects my heart

·        My actions and attitude affects everyone

·        To read my Word and pray everyday

·        To work as a team even when I don’t feel like being nice

·        To be happy for someone else who wins

·        To strive for excellence even in the little things

·        To help others especially when you don’t feel like it

Natalie, a 6th grader, committed to only listening to Christian music for a week.  She said, “In order to keep myself focused I get up and spend an hour in praise in worship.”

Our team has grown in depth and character over the summer as these rising leaders have determined to show forth the character of Christ.  These are the leaders of the next generation and we believe that each of these leaders will not only change their neighborhood, but will literally impact the world for Christ.

Ayana in the Spotlight

Most would not consider a 1st grader for a leadership position, but Ayana stands far above the average.  For a year we watched this young aspiring leader and knew that she was very special, but this summer everyone in camp would say she is by far the most extraordinary leader.  In addition to being extremely intelligent, she excels in Bible reading, prayer, scripture memory, and is always ready to help serve regardless of the task.

All of our leaders would say that UIH Summer Camp is extremely difficult as it takes commitment, determination, and a lot of hard work to remain in  camp, but Ayana has been faithful to fulfill every requirement.  In fact, this 7 year old leader is determined to be one of the 4 leaders who will be chosen to go on the Boston College field trip at the end of August.   She doesn’t consider the fact that all of the others who are competing for this privilege are 6th – 8th graders, she just puts her whole heart into serving God.

In order to qualify for this trip, leaders must be reading their Word EVERYDAY for 25 minutes and praying at least 10 minutes.  They must have 20 specific verses memorized, and pass 4 Bible knowledge tests which are structured to cover Old and New Testament truths at a high school level.  (The first question on the test is:  Outline the entire book of Revelation)

To qualify for the Boston Trip leader must also have completed 4 service projects, done 3 acts of kindness per week, and demonstrated Christ-like leadership qualities all throughout the summer.  These qualifications are not easy, and for a 1st grader most would say impossible!
