To unite with churches and other Christian organizations to totally transform inner city communities through the love of Jesus Christ.
The 2nd Annual Summer Festival was AWESOME! Over 300 residents attended as well as countless volunteers. Three of our supporters from California, Idaho and Ohio came specifically to serve at the festival. Special thanks to Brother James Taylor (JusBoogie), Pastor Chris McLeod, Minister Gullins, David Osborn, C.J. McBath, Ben Barrow (Son of Jacob), Daron Moore (The Tcha), PL, God’s X-Gangsters, and Elijah Simmons.
The event began with two 3 on 3 tournaments for the younger boys: ages 9-12 and 13-15. Then, 8 men’s teams competed in a full-court 5 on 5 tournament. It was such a huge success and all of the participants were so impressed with the dedication of Brother James Taylor who helped set up the event, preached the Word, organized the teams, and single-handedly refereed all of games. Since that day, many of the men visit Brother James in the CRC Discover Life Bookstore where he is able to continue to minister to them. We believe that this was the first real breakthrough in developing lasting relationships with many of the men in Twin Canal.
After the event many of the residents have approached us saying thanks for all the wonderful things that we have been doing in the neighborhood. Additionally, parents have approached us asking how they can get their children involved in all of our programs.
Presently we have 19 children in Leadership Summer Camp which runs Monday – Wednesday, and we have seen such tremendous growth in all of our leaders. The requirements established for camp are rigorous. Leaders cannot miss more than 2 days during the entire summer. If they are more than 15 minutes late to any required activity including church it is counted as an absence. Campers must also arrive with all the required items for the day, participate in all events with a positive and encouraging attitude, and represent Christ in their daily lives.
Every Wednesday was filled with a time of serving (mostly at Discover Life Center) and then with a wonderful reward demonstrating leadership qualities. During July we were blessed to go to Ocean Breeze, a local water theme park. Afterwards we treated the children to an all-you-can-eat pizza buffet. Needless to say, they are still talking about how much fun they had on that day!
