For the last 5 years we have been working in Twin Canal, a low-income housing project in Virginia Beach.  We provide after-school tutoring, mentoring, counseling, bible studies, step and dance team, transportation to church, and a variety of other outreaches.

United In Him was established as a non-profit organization on

February 28, 2003.

OUR BEGINNING

In October of 2002, God spoke saying, "Trust Me and I will provide for your every need and give you providential blessings beyond what you have every thought possible."  He said, "If you cannot trust Me for the first $700, how will you ever be able to trust Me with the millions that I will release into your hands?"

The $700.00 we needed was to register the ministry as a non-profit corporation and obtain our 501(c)3 status.  But after receiving this word in October we knew that God was clearly telling us that we were not to use our own money, nor were we able to ask for money or even tell anyone that we needed money.

Two months later Jackie flew home for Christmas and while she was on the plane a woman named Dominique overheard her conversation with her brother in regards to the establishment of the ministry through the power of prayer.  Upon arriving in the airport, Dominique approached Jackie and placed seven $100 bills into her hand saying, "I just want you to know that God answers prayer."  (Read the whole story in February Newsletter)

Vicki Stevenson, Director

Jackie Andrews, Assistant Director

Ashley Galvez, Programs Director

Vicki Stevenson has always had the desire to see children succeed.  In 1993 he moved to Virginia Beach to teach 4th grade at Parkway Elementary School.  Vicki soon realized that her arms were not big enough to extend to the hundreds of children and started the F.R.I.E.N.D.S. mentoring program in the public school in 2000.

In 2002 the LORD said, “Leave your home and move closer to the Parkway Elementary so that you can minister more effectively to the children.”  After much soul searching, Vicki rented out her townhouse on the water, and moved across the street from Twin Canal.

In 2004, the LORD said, “Come. Follow Me, and I will make you a fisher of men.”  After the school year ended, Vicki resigned her position as a 4th grade teacher and moved into full-time ministry.

Vicki believes that in Christ anything is possible, and that God is no respecter of persons, "What He has done for me, He will do for anyone who is willing to surrender fully to His will."

Education

Vicki earned her BS in teaching at Eastern Michigan University and her Master's Degree in counseling.

Jackie Andrews

Since 1987 Jackie's passion has continued to grow to evangelize, equip, and empower the nations through the love of Jesus Christ.  In 2003 she was called to leave a successful career working in the nuclear science and unite with Vicki who had a similar vision to transform inner-city communities.

Jackie's vision is to train up leaders to return to their neighborhood, school, and workplace and transform lives through the power of Jesus Christ. The fire of God is contagious when Christ ignites the flame in your heart; it can be transferred to others.

Background

Jackie graduated from Boise State University with a degree in Bilingual Education.  She is also a nationally certified massage therapist. She has been on many short-term mission projects abroad, attended Bible college, and has taught countless Bible study classes.  She has also developed individualized discipleship programs, a Bible/Fitness program, a chronological  Bible study through the scriptures.

          Ashley Galvez

Ashley has been serving the LORD since her 8th birthday with a passion unequalled by most teenagers.  She joined the ministry as a volunteer in November of 2003 at the age of 16.  Since that time she has been teaching dance every Saturday to children of all ages.  Regardless of their skill, Ashley has taught them that their value is not in what they do, but in who they are in Christ.  Yet at the same time, she has empowered them to see that through hard work all things are possible.

Ashley lives in a world without walls.  She breaks through barriers that others have constructed; and sees every obstacle as an opportunity to bring glory to the LORD.  Ashley exemplifies one who becomes all things to all people in order to save the few.  She has become the roll model for our children and because of her witness now all of the girls aspire to excel not only in academic excellence but also in their walk with Christ.

Ashley lives in the world, but the world does not have her affection.  She is sold out to Christ and looks to Him for strength and considers nothing as impossible.  Over the past three years she has finished High School with honors, started a dance team in her high school, won many of her friends to the LORD.
